Using bright colour, graphic text, and a child-like element, my work explores intimacy and the varied ways we see one another. Previously this has centred on drawing and reworking faces, as well as painting a series of self-portraits mapping my own body. In my current project I use the varied opening liners I’ve received on dating apps as a starting point for my work. Heartfelt/bizarre/filthy/misspelled/tragic/playful/ludicrous – these opening liners allow a glimpse into the vulnerable inner shell of humans that we rarely show one another. Gen X has many masks, and I find the process of peeling these back revealing and endlessly fascinating.
