I’ve been painting from life for many years and recently a lot of my paintings are based around masks and figures. Identity is at the heart of my work. I’m interested in what lies behind appearances, beneath the skin. Happiest of all when I'm painting though I've been told that this is not always apparent in the finished pieces! I love gesture in painting, along with the immediacy of working in ink. Colour is an important aspect and has always had a direct link to emotion for me.
I’m recently completed a year-long advanced print-making class at City Lit which I really enjoyed. It has been great to work collaboratively and show my work as part of a group interested in and supportive of each other. The techniques that have most expanded what I do are Carborundum and Caustic Etching, which give me something similar to the fluidity that I love from working in ink.
My garden also has a number of sculptures made of driftwood and metal (mostly not for sale).
