Jenny Hellen creates textile collages, watercolours and prints that respond abstractly to the light, colour and movement within experienced spaces and landscapes. Their development reflects particular moments and time passing. The horizontals, verticals and diagonals open out or enclose and contain precious moments of time where concentration and pace recedes and drifts.
The collages are made from a found palette of colours and textures of fabrics and their selection contemplates a duality of surface and created space. They contrast intricacy of qualities and the broad beautiful transient nature of the light of sky and water. Balance is found through the process of selecting, moving and placing the fabrics and stiches. The watercolour paintings respond more directly to the ebb and flow of water and the course of movement in trees and air and contrast with the solidity of landmass.
