Althea Battams studied Art at Goldsmiths College, specializing in Film and Photography.
She then worked as an Animator, making films for independent studios and BBC television.
Subsequently, having obtained a PGCE, she taught art in Secondary and Tertiary education for many years.
Since 2008 she has been painting full time and has had several solo exhibitions in London and taken part in many group shows mainly in London, but also in Canterbury.
Her work is based on detailed studies of the chance interplay between objects, light and shadows. She is also interested in the paradox that: the more of an 'illusion' that is created with paint, then the more 'realistic' the result seems.
